Context:
I AM YOU
is a non-profit based in Greece that focuses on resolving real-time needs of
the population it serves. The need can either be on going or momentary. The
impact of solving a real need however is permanent.
Currently we are operating in Ritsona refugee camp within
Central Greece. I AM YOU started in October 2015 in response to the immediate
emergency needs of refugees arriving in Lesvos. We are a grassroots
organization that believes in the power of people and that there is a better
way of providing aid. Our mission is to serve displaced populations and fight
prejudice, by putting our common humanity first.
Volunteering
with I AM YOU means that you will join a dynamic team of individuals who work
together to support our work while bringing a sense of humanity by improving
the lives of displaced men, women and children. Our organization focuses on
human-to-human aid, putting volunteers at the forefront of our work and
building our organization from their skills and experience. We celebrate the
diversity in our team and believe it makes us stronger.
We are
currently looking for an English Teacher to join our Non-Formal Education
Program. We provide 4 classes in different levels a day, with an additional
mixed level class in the Female Friendly Space. The course is held in a 6 week
cycle, therefore it’s vital that you will be available for at least 6 weeks.
Job Purpose/General Nature of the
Position:
The Non-Formal Education Adult
English Teacher will plan and implement the English Language Curriculum as
designed by the Education Coordinator for the students of Ritsona. The main
aim of the role is to ensure that a high standard of English is being taught
to the adult students . However the successful candidate will also contribute
to the success of the program through feedback, administrative support and
class development.

Responsibilities:
● Plan and prepare lessons
● Teach up to 4 different levels of English
● Take daily attendance
● Produce report of the lessons implemented
● Constantly look to improve the program we offer
● Provide administrative support to the Education Coordinator
Skills and experience:
● Good written communication skills
● Team player mentality and creative problem-solver
● Capacity to work in fast-paced and emotionally-intense
contexts
● Basic IT knowledge
● Self-motivated and enthusiastic about the work required
Minimum Requirements:
Ideally
6 weeks of availability (can be negotiated)
Past
experience teaching English as a second language is preferred
Acknowledges
and respects gender, cultural, ethical, social, and religious constraints
Demonstrates
an understanding and desire of working with residents in a particularly
vulnerable environment
Interest
in working with migrant and refugee adults/children
Must
be at least 24 years of age

5 day
week 10:00 - 16:30
Weekends
off and pre agreed public holidays

Important Information
The work
is voluntary. You will not receive any economic compensation and volunteers
are expected to pay for their own flights and meals during their stay. I AM
YOU sponsors volunteers with shared transport on location and special rates
for accommodation.
